Read In Content from Discs with Rimage®

You may know that your Rimage Disc Publishing System can create and duplicate CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray™ optical media. However, did you know that you can also read in content from those discs and copy it to your computer? If you have a large set of discs and would like the content of those discs on a hard drive or put onto your network, Rimage offers bulk read capabilities on all of our systems. You can load stacks of discs into the input and then copy the data to an accessible location of your choosing, or upload the data from disc as an image format to make identical disc copies at a later time. If you take advantage of spanning to build large sets of discs, the bulk read option is an easy way to restore all of the content from discs.

To create a library of disc images that can be used at a later time to create new discs, use Bulk Read to read your discs in as image files. Later, when you want to create a disc, use the ‘Record an Existing Disc Image File to Disc’ within QuickDisc to create a disc from the image. The resulting disc is identical to the original, just as if you did a Copy Disc job by using the Rimage system.

What if you created a backup of important data from a hard drive, then later had the dreaded hard drive failure? You probably wouldn’t want to manually copy data from each disc onto the replacement hard drive individually. Instead, you can use Rimage Bulk Read to automate the process, and extract the actual files and folders from the disc instead of a disc image.

For customers who just need their content read, Rimage offers Auto Bulk Read which takes care of the job setup for you – all you have to do is simply load your discs and go. If you are a system integrator or require additional parameters, Rimage Bulk Read is also possible through the Rimage API’s. This allows you to read data in from a disc, and then make decisions about what to do based on the data. For example, what if this file is already on the network, but with a different date and size? You could create a log entry in a security report noting that the file has been tampered with, while not automatically replacing the file. Then, when you’re ready, run a comparison to find the differences between the file on the optical disc vs the replacement file to find the differences. The sky’s the limit with what you can do with the API as you read the data in.

While Rimage has included Bulk Read and Auto Bulk Read in our software for years, it has only been able to be accessed through our Production Server GUI and Rimage System Manager software. Rimage is happy to announce that as of Rimage Software Suite 9.0, Automatic Bulk Read is now available in our QuickDisc software. This makes it easy for anyone to use the feature, even if they are not familiar with the software.
